1. the elder i was in a bissness with decided a hand shake was not a contract, and paid me $500 dollars instead of the $3,000 he should have....i felt so stupid, but quit with him and treated him like a disfellowshiped person since....also he would pay me half a days wage when i worked from 8am till 3pm ???????
when told about this he said sorry but "couldn't work out how to re-emburse the lost hours.".
2. my elderly mum sold some furniture when moving, to a sister who promised to pay from her single parent pension in small installments........nope!
I think the problem is that they think they can hold you to a higher standard because you're a "christian". Then they hold themselves to a lower standard because you're a "christian" and christians are supposed to look out for the less fortunate ones. (Especially if the one borrowing is wealthier than the one lending.)
BTW, there are a lot of scammers out there so some of them are bound to be JWs.
my brother-in-law managed to knock up a jw girl (she forgot to tell him she was a jw until after they were screwing for a year and after she was pregnant).

A popular belief came about a few years ago that immunizations cause autism. This is a more likely reason for the mother's fear of immunizations, rather than traces of blood being in the shots. There was an autistic child in my former hall who's mother claimed that mercury in the immunization shots were the cause of her son's condition, although her other 2 children recieved the same immunizations and were healthy. It caused quite a buzz in the hall -you know, you just can't trust anything in satan's system.
Find out why she refuses the immunizations first and go from there.
i am disturbed by the recent trend in the media in america that encourages the butchering of our english language.. i'm talking about examples of film titles like "she hate me", "how she move", & "baby mama".
does it really take that much effort to add an "s" to the end of a word?

on the surface, it seems to be a loosening of control.
At the last convention I was at (2005 I think) in the final talk, given by a "bethel heavy" he specifically mentioned there being a shortage of qualified men. They gave numbers of how many MS's and Elders - like a quota that needed to be filled. They probably tried to spin it that there were so many new people coming into the org, too new to take the lead. But we know that the old guys are dying off and the young guys are leaving or just not interested in extra responsibility without pay. I think they just aren't enough elders to conduct and MS's to fill 4-6 bookstudies, plus WT conductor, PO, secretary, school conductor and service overseer.

i guess they finally figured out that people are not likely to drive 50-300 miles to a fringe group's religious convention after receiving a smarmy invitation from a stranger at their door..
I don't want to acutally say that it "makes sence" for them to do anything that they do but...After 3 or 4 years of doing the same campaign, the same time of year, with no results - it gets more tiresome and dreaded each time it comes around again. Their strategy seemed to be trying to make FS seem new and exciting not bland and predictable. They gotta give them something new and fresh from time to time orl, at least change the packaging.

Yep, no proms allowed. I don't know, I guess they made too many horny teenager movies about "losing it" on prom night and the borg thought they were documentaries. Kids around here started trying to make up for missing thier proms by organizing formal dances. After a few years they had to put and end to that too. (Kids are having fun!? Nooooooo!!!) The counsel was that we should not be immitating worldly customs, anything that resembeles something worldly should not be desired.

I look back on the years spent being a JW and mostly feel regret for things that I didn't do or how I could have treated people better, I wasn't allowed to be friends with them, so why try. I try to look for the good that maybe came from being part of the religion but, like OTWO, I really can't give them credit for anything good that I have become or good that I have done. Had I not grown up as a JW would my life be better or worse? I cannot guess. That is where I met my husband and we both are out now and I couldn't be happier (unless my mom and sister were out too - that might be asking too much.)
From my JW training I learned how to cheat at arguing and how to be really confusing - really not a good thing but it can be FUN!

I'm taking a Philosophy class right now, Intro to Ethics. I like it pretty well but, I wouldn't say its anything earth-shaking. We have read peices from Plato, Aristotle, Hobbes, Hume and Kant. I'm actually supposed to be writing a paper right now................
and eat it too.. ok today i'm getting ready to take my husband to an appointment and i check my iphone, which had been charging, low and behold i have a call from my mother.
i call her back and she says what she wasn't calling for any particular reason but then goes on the mention that my sister had called earlier and wished her a happy birthday and even though she doesn't celebrate birthdays she was quite pleased that my sister did call and acknowledged her birthday.
i told my dear mother that it had crossed my mind to call her to day because of her birthday but since she doesn't celebrate it i thought it would be more prudent not to call today but to wait til tomorrow as that i would not offend.
Next year throw her a surprise b-day party.
i use to, well i still do think its no better than the confession idea to a priest.. 1. how many elders step down and are removed and what then?.
2. how many people have access to the file cabinet?.
3. my biggest thought is how many that are no longer elders repeat the dirty little secrets?.
I used to wonder how bad did you have to be to need to have to go the elders about it. In other words, at what point do you need to assemble a team to ask for god to forgive you?
